Abstract

As a result of its geostrategic, geopolitical, and geocultural position, Iran has a special influence on regional politics. Iran's nuclear program can tilt the balance of power in West Asia in its own favor, but the competing states from the region are expected to oppose such a program. Iran's choice of nonconventional weapons would be extremely likely to influence neighboring countries to start their own nuclear weapons programs to maintain the balance of power in the West Asian region. This article contends that the Iranian nuclear issue should be dealt with immediately. It concludes that the issue of Iran's nuclear ambitions must be properly resolved because it can lead to a new round of regional and global nuclear proliferation.
