Abstract

This study analysed the collocational errors of Iranian EFL learners in their speaking skill. Fifteen Iranian postgraduate students in an Intensive English Course in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia participated in this study. They sat for an impromptu (unprepared) speech test and public (prepared) speech test as the instruments of the study. The analysis of collocational errors in the two tests was threefold. It tried to find out if the errors show any significant difference in the two tests with regard to firstly, the number of collocational errors, secondly, the number of lexical and grammatical errors and finally, the number of interlingual and intralingual errors.
