Abstract

Bismuth(III) salts with L(+)-tartaric acid were obtained by precipitation from mineral acid solutions. Two samples of bismuth(III) salts: [Bi(C4H4O6)(C4H5O6)].3H2O of a previously known crystal structure and amorphous BiC4H3O6·H2O used as an active component of antibacterial preparations were examined by using the methods of X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis (DTA) in combination with chemical analysis of solid phases. IR spectroscopy is shown to be sufficiently informative to establish compositions of non-crystalline bismuth salts.
