Abstract
The authors investigate the binding energy and width of a hydrogen atom in an ultra-intense laser field. They find no bound state for a circularly polarised laser but find a very loosely bound state for a linearly polarised one. The binding energy of this state behaves as I-12/(ln I)2 with a variationally determined coefficient. The width of the state has the same behaviour with intensity and the coefficient is roughly given.
