Abstract
A phenomenological model for the ionic conductivity in silicate and germanate glasses has been developed and applied to glasses with different compositions. Moreover, the model has been shown to be able to account for the mixed-alkali conductivity phenomenon. In developing the model, the ‘collective behaviours’ of alkali ions in glasses have been proposed and discussed.
