Abstract

The results of a study that examined the impact of initial client characteristics on their treatment participation are presented. The physiological, psychological and social characteristics of the participants are described according to physical dependence (alcohol) scales, client acceptance of alcoholism scales and social support and social stability scales. The study's major conclusion is that regardless of the essential nature of the clients' alcoholism, their decisions to engage in treatment and the degree of their participation were influenced by multiple client characteristics.
