Abstract

Developing methods to answer scientific questions is one of the practical approaches for doing science; optical microscopy, for example, has been a fundamental method of biological or medical discovery for more than three centuries. Building systems or tools to solve current issues existed in the world (e.g., infectious or chronic diseases) is also one of the attracting projects that we can involve and contribute. Due to this reason, for last few years, we have developed multiple “simple” technologies, which can be used in both developing and developed worlds. I will talk about what we are currently working on at National Tsing Hua University, including paper-based ELISA for the diagnosis of various diseases such as proliferative diabetic retinopathy, and other fiber-based diagnostic formats (i.e., cotton and bamboo), with their clinical validations, for clinically relevant diagnostic applications (septicemia and rapid diagnosis for organophosphorus and paraquat poisoning) in different divisions of medicine.
