Abstract

A new Solar Hub entitled the Center for Hybrid Approaches in Solar Energy to Liquid Fuels (CHASE) has been created to advance fundamental research on the production of liquid fuels from sunlight, water, nitrogen, and/or carbon dioxide. CHASE will undertake the construction and mechanistic study of hybrid photoelectrodes based on molecular catalysts integrated with solid-state semiconductors in tailored microenvironments in order to achieve liquid solar fuels production. CHASE is centered at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill with partner institutions at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Emory University, North Carolina State University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University.
