Abstract
A Monte Carlo simulation of the detection of beta and gamma rays in the region 0.2–8.5 MeV by germanium detectors is described. The major interactions involved in the detection process and the qualitative features of the resulting detector response functions are discussed. Experimental measurements of electron response functions and gamma ray detection efficiency curves are compared with results of the calculation.
