Abstract

The paper deals with proper mixing of silicon carbide (SiCp) nano particles (25 nm) having weight fraction of 1%, 1.5% and 2% with aluminium powder to form Al-SiCp nano composite cast ingot. The present research work reveals the characteristics and performance comparison of uncoated carbide tool (CNMG 120408 TTR) and coated multilayer carbide tool (CNMG 12040822) during machining (turning) of Al-SiCp metal matrix nano composites (MMNC). Further, the experiment was carried out for machining of Al-SiCp MMNC using Taguchi L16 orthogonal array using multilayer coated as well as uncoated carbide tools at three different factors and four different levels. After machining, the surface roughness’s of workpiece and flank wear of tool were evaluated and optimized by using Principal Component Analysis. Finally, mathematical modeling was developed for flank wear (VBc) of the tools and surface roughness (Ra) of workpiece during dry turning operation.
