Abstract

Objective To study the distribution characteristics of dyslipidemia of medical staffs in department of endocrinology so as to provide scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia in medical personnels. Methods The blood lipid levels and carotid artery ultrasound findings of 1 735 medical staffs in 50 hospitals in China were analyzed. Results Medical staffs in the department of endocrinology showed a higher proportion of risk factors for dyslipidemia. The prevalences of dyslipidemia in this population were high, 60.37% in all, 66.87% in males, and 55.59% in females, and increased with age. The prevalences of dyslipidemia in males were higher than those in females among 40~49 years old and 50~59 years old groups(81.97% vs 57.49%, 73.56% vs 62.50%, both P<0.05). The total prevalence rate of vascular lesions was over 50%, higher in males than that in females, mainly manifested in carotid arterial intima-media thickness and plaque formation. Conclusions The medical staffs in the department of endocrinology had a very high prevalence of dyslipidemia and vascular lesions, and more attention should be given.
