Abstract

Objective To investigate the mental health status of 216 accompanying persons who nurse severe elderly patients and explore the environment, time, cause and degree related to occurrence of unhealthy emotions, to offer pertinent health education and guidance for them and eliminate hidden danger of ward.Methods 108 objects from elderly ward and 108 from general ward were randomly collected, and the self-rating symptom checklist (SCL), the self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and the self-rating depressive scale (SDS) was performed. Results Statistical significance (P<0.05 ) was found in scores of the SCL between the two groups and the SAS and SDS among every age of groups. Further more, the highest scores were found in the SAS of 18~30 years-old group and the SDS of 31~40 year-old group. Conclusions Based on the worse mental health status, more attention should be given to the accompanying persons in the elderly ward from the society and medical stuff.
