Abstract
The Love River is a tidal river. A part of its tidal reach often exhibits discoloration for 3-5 consecutive days during changes in seasons. Beginning in September 2017, monthly water sampling was conducted. Sampling was also conducted when the river water exhibited discoloration. The regular analysis items as well as the calcium sulfate, sulfate ion, and calcium ion concentrations were determined. At Smile Park and Longxin Bridge, detectors were installed to continuously monitor the pH level, conductivity. Thus, the changes in the aforementioned parameters before and after the discoloration could be determined. The analysis results revealed that calcium sulfate turned the Love River water milky white. The continuous water quality monitoring analysis results indicated that when the water color changed to milky white, the pH value of the water fluctuated. The water changed color 1–4 days after the fluctuation. The calcium sulfate concentration in the discolored samples was higher than that in the water samples collected when the water was clear.
