Abstract

The NLO single crystal guanidinium pentaborate monohydrate (GPBMH) was grown-up by slow evaporation technique (SET). The lattice parameters and structure of grown crystal were resolved by single crystal X-ray diffraction (S-XRD). GPBMH is crystallized into the triclinic crystal system with a space group P1¯. UV–Vis-NIR study reveals that GPBMH crystal exhibits 57% and 53% transparency in the entire visible region corresponding to (123) and (1¯2¯3¯) orientations respectively. Functional groups existing in the synthesized compound were identified by FT-IR and FT-Raman vibration analyses. Thermal stability of the GPBMH crystal was analyzed by using TGA-DTA studies. The Surface morphology of the GPBMH crystal was identified by high resolution scanning electron microscopy (HR-SEM). Ability to withstand laser power at the surface of the crystal was investigated by surface laser damage threshold (SLDT) studies. Nonlinear refractive index, nonlinear absorption co-efficient and third order nonlinear susceptibility of the titled crystal was studied by Z-Scan technique. The micro hardness values of GPBMH crystal have been measured on the (123) and (1¯2¯3¯) planes by the Vickers indentation method.
