Abstract

Based on the real SAR imaging process, a simulation method of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image for time-varying sea surface is proposed. Time-varying sea surface scene and electromagnetic scattering model are built to obtain the profile and complex reflectivity of sea surface for the SAR echo signal simulation. The radial velocity due to the orbit velocity of the large-scale waves would cause additional Doppler shift and Velocity Bunching (VB) effect. In this paper, the VB effect in SAR image is simulated via changing phase of echo signal and producing an additional Doppler shift. The simulated results show the VB effect of SAR. This work is helpful for better understanding SAR images of ocean waves.
