Abstract

Experimental Modal analysis is a process of describing a structure in terms of its dynamic properties namely the natural frequency, damping and mode shape. These parameters are the essential in engineering analysis and design. In this work, experimental modal analysis has been performed to obtain natural frequencies, modal damping and mode shapes of rectangular cantilever beam. An instrumented impact hammerwas used as the source of excitation. Frequency Response Functions and subsequent extraction of modal data i.e. natural frequency, damping and mode shapes was performed using NI LabVIEW 2013® software. These modal parameters were then checked using theoretical modal analysis. A good correlation between experimental results and theoretical results was observed.
