Abstract

Tomato is one of the most important vegetable crops of mid hills of Himachal Pradesh where it is being cultivated as off season crop. Damping-off of tomato seedlings in nurseries is an important disease in this region of the state and the incidence of the disease ranged from 41.3 to 85.0%. The associated pathogen was isolated and pure culture was raised. On the basis of morphological characters and molecular characterization the pathogen was identified as Pythium ultimum Trow. Epidemiological factors like high soil moisture (60–70%) and moderate soil temperature of 25 °C was found most favourable for the development of this disease.
