Abstract
Home life and working life are two elements that affect each other correlatively. The roles of the individual in family and working life can sometimes result in conflicts.The most common troubles due to the inconsistencies in the family and working life are being fatigue, underperformance, feeling less qualified and not well at work, dissatisfaction of job and walk-out. It was aimed in this study to determine the work-family conflict and family-work conflict- that teachers went through. The population included teachers who worked at the schools of primary and secondary education bounded to the province of Ankara. The sample included 364 teachers in total 240 of which were in the primary education level and 124 were in the secondary education level. Data of the study was collected via the work-family and family-work conflict scale that was developed by the researchers with the demographic characteristics questionnaire. It was seen that the scale was divided into two sub-dimensions as work-family conflict and family-work conflict at the end of the factor analysis. The reliability of the sub-dimension of work-family conflict was calculated as .90 and the reliability of family-work conflict was calculated as .89. The scale included 20 items in total. It was seen in the study that teachers went through work-family conflict (X=26.25) more than the family-work conflict(X=20.43). The most common conflicts within the work-family conflict are as follow: a contuniung trouble at home confronted at work, the physical and mental fatigue at work makes difficult the responsibilities at home, a problem that was confronted at work causes tension and stress at home. On the other hand, the most common problems within the family-work conflict are as follow: The responbilities and small works at home causes to make sacrifice from sleeping. The unexpected situations (becoming ill of the child, unplanned guest) at home makes difficult the working life.In addition, it was found that female and young teachers more go through work- family conflict and private school teachers more go through both of the conflicts.
