Abstract

Ultrasonic inspection method is a well-known non-destructive testing technique which has been applied to the tube inspection for guarantying the quality of the production. However there exist several challenges to detect the defects of tubes as the diameter of the tubes is less than 10mm and the wall-thickness is less than 1mm. This is because of the ambiguity production from the multiple reflections and waveform conversion when ultrasonic waves propagate inside a thin walled tube. In this paper, the parameter based sensing optimized ultrasonic immersed testing method for thin-wall stainless tube with 6mm diameter and 0. 677mm wall-thickness has been proposed. The simulation and experiment result demonstrates that the echoes of the defects are significantly identifiable. This testing method is effective for small diameter and thin-wall tube.
