Abstract

Abstract During a four-year TL project, the largest Copper Age cemetery in Hungary was studied in detail. Some 26 vessels from 15 graves were investigated by the quartz inclusion technique. Comprehensive TL analyses and evaluation of error limits revealed two distinct periods, corresponding to the Tiszapolgar and Bodrogkeresztur cultures, with TL ages of 6380 ± 160; ± 500 and 5830 ± 100; ± 450 yr, respectively, in agreement with archaeological estimates. The TL methodology and results are discussed and possible interpretations are given.
