Abstract

The spin reorientation caused by the competition between the contributions of iron and rare-earth ions to the magnetic anisotropy of rare-earth iron compounds is investigated on a DyFe 10V 2 single crystal. The measured field and temperature dependence of the magnetization, the AC-susceptibility and the torque curves reveal the presence of only one spin reorientation, at T SR = 145 K. At low temperatures, the angle of the easy direction of magnetization with the c-axis is about 30°. A magnetic anisotropy is found for different directions of fields applied in the plane perpendicular to the c-axis for temperatures below as well as above the spin reorientation.
