Abstract

Abstract A new technique is presented for examining the spontaneous low frequency oscillations in electric power systems. This new technique makes use of the frequency domain approach in which the eigenvalues associated with the rotor oscillations in the system are first computed. Then, the damping factor and oscillation frequency for each oscillation mode can be found from these eigenvalues. The proposed method is very efficient and its effectiveness is demonstrated by analysis of the low frequency oscillations in the Taiwan power system.
