Abstract

1. The dynamics of the atomization process was studied, under industrial conditions, by the technique of high-speed motion picture photography. An analysis is made of the structure of the atomized spray, indicating the existence of two zones in which the pressure difference between the air and the metal is a maximum. 2. The resulting particle size decreases with increase in the mean maximum velocities of the liquid metal drops. 3. For better utilization of the energy of the atomizing agent, the proportion of the jet energy expended on accelerating the liquid drops should be raised.
