Abstract
This paper investigates the generation of harmonics in conventional radio frequency (rf) heating systems. An extended circuit model encapsulating the harmonic characteristics of the system is derived using Foster’s theorem. This model is analyzed using both an analytic and a circuit simulation approach. The effect of varying the tuning conditions of the system on the harmonic power spectrum is investigated for a typical system. This has revealed some correlation between the resonant modes of the system and its harmonics, which has been postulated in mathematical form as dimensionless factors.
