Abstract

In order to explain the appearance of stage IV strain hardening and to understand the development of dislocation cell structure, a computer simulation was carried out for a two-dimensional crystal. Based on several dislocation reactions, the conditions for the formation of stable cell structures were investigated. The resulting cell structures were analysed by a geometric method and a correlation between their development and the strain hardening was found. The most important advantage of this work is that several dislocation processes and the assumptions of physical models can be considered as direct functions of deformation. It is a possible alternative to transmission electron microscopy investigations.
