Abstract
1. The dehydrogenation of tetralin by polysulfophenylenequinone was investigated by a spectrophotometric method. 2. The maximum yield of naphthalene (72.6%) was obtained in an inert atmosphere at 138°. 3. The dehydrogenation reaction proceeds according to first order with respect to tetralin and is autocatalytic in character; the activation energy of the dehydrogenation process is equal to 11.4 kcal/mole 4. After the first dehydrogenation, the electron-exchange capacity of polysulfophenylenequinone decreases somewhat and remains constant during subsequent processes of dehydrogenation (after regeneration).
