Abstract

1. The kinetics of the dehydrogenation and dehydration of ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, n-butanol, and isobutanol, the dehydrogenation of tetralin, and the dehydration of tert-butanol on ytterbium oxide was studied. The activation energies of these reactions were determined. 2. A difference in the catalytic properties of gadolinium, dysprosium, thulium, and ytterbium oxides with respect to the conversion of alcohols and tetralin was demonstrated. With increasing atomic number of the element forming the oxide, both the dehydrogenating and the dehydrating abilities of the oxides increase.
