Abstract
Summary The construct validity of various tests of cognitive style believed to be related to psychological defenses was investigated by a direct comparison of the Rorschach Index of Repressive Style (RIRS) and scales used as indicators of psychological differentiation. Latency age, emotionally disturbed males were used as Ss. The results demonstrated that repression as measured by the RIRS has little relationship with scales considered to be measures of psychological differentiation. Further research is needed to establish the construct validity of both the RIRS and Psychological Differentiation Scales before the clinical utility of the scales can be adequately considered.
