Abstract

The behavior of liquid water transport process into the GDL is investigated by direct numerical simulation as well as experiment using X-ray computed tomography. As a result, it is possible that liquid water adjacent to the MPL is transported as mist which can pass through the small-pores by Brownian motion. Furthermore, the effect of the MPL on a PEFC performance under both dry-out and flooding condition could be elucidated by a hypothesis about the water transport mechanism involving the Kelvin effect inside the hydrophobic mesopore inside it.
