Abstract

The results of an investigation of the aerodynamic action of wind on the operation of the heat-exchangers of a passive system removing heat to atmospheric air are presented. The object of the investigation is the main building of Novovoronezh NPP-2. The investigations were performed at the Institute for Physics and Power Engineering on an aerodynamic setup with maximum air flow rate in the loop 80·103 m3/h. The linear scale of the model is 1:200. In the experiments the pressure distribution was measured at several points: on the outer surface of the containment vessel of the reactor, at the locations of the air intakes of the heat-exchangers of the passive heat-removal system, inside the top deflector and the pressure drop along the air ducts of the heat exchangers of the passive heat-removal system for all possible directions and speeds of the wind. The investigation was conducted for constant air temperature and a one-dimensional velocity field in the air flow. The influence of a gradient velocity profile was judged according to the results obtained with a two-step profile of the velocity in the air flow. The experiments validated the technical decisions ensuring that the operation of the passive heat-removal system in the VVER at Novovoronezh NPP-2 is independent of the wind speed and direction.
