Abstract

Bombardment of a 14N gas target with 2.80, 3.42, 3.82, 4.85 and 5.35 MeV deuterons has given absolute differential cross sections for the 14N(d, n) 15O reaction. With a combination of pulsed-beam and gamma-associated time-of-flight methods angular distributions of neutrons to seven states in 15O have been measured from 0° to 160° (lab). The results have been analysed with a combination of DWBA and CN codes to derive l p values and spectroseopic factors. The l p values are consistent with the generally accepted correspondence between the 15O states and their mirror states in 15N. The most straightforward interpretation of the spectroscopic factors is that 15O shows a concentration of the p-shell hole strength in two spin-orbit split states, while the s- and d-wave strengths are spread over a large excitation energy region, with considerable strength above 8 MeV.
