Abstract

The absolute cross sections of the 16O(d, p) 17O reaction leading to the ground and 0.87 MeV state in 17O have been determined over the deuteron energy range 6.0–11.0 MeV. The results indicate that in two previous measurements the absolute cross sections were low by 43% and 32%. DWBA calculations normalized to the present absolute cross sections give values of the spectroscopic factor of the ground and 0.87 MeV state which are close to unity over the entire range. Renormalization of previously measured cross sections of stripping to the 5.08 MeV unbound state in 17O results in agreement with calculations which assumed this state to be a single-particle resonance.
