Abstract
1. For spray-deposited aluminum oxide coatings, the mean pore size determined by the technique of mercury porosimetry is approximately one-twentieth the pore size measured on micrographs of sections. 2. When the pore cross section varies over the specimen thickness, porosimetric studies determine not the pore-size distribution but the distribution of the effective radii of the constricted passages. 3. Micrographs of sections give a fairly accurate representation of the true structure of spray-deposited coatings.
