Abstract

We have investigated the effect of p-cyano-benzylidenemalononitrile (BMN) concentration on the morphological, optical and electrical properties of conjugated polymer Poly [2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV). The surface morphology study via scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the composite films shows obviously change with the addition of BMN. Introduction of BMN in MEH-PPV leads to a broadening of absorption spectra at the higher wavelengths and a strong quenching of the photoluminescence intensity, suggesting an effective charge transfer between these two organic compounds. The electrical properties of the ITO/MEH-PPV:BMN/Al structure were investigated through dark I–V measurements. I–V characteristics for the ITO/MEH-PPV:BMN/Al structure indicate typical Schottky diode behavior with relatively low threshold voltage. Moreover, diode parameters such as barrier height and ideality factor were calculated.
