Abstract

Abstract Levels of colour in waters draining from certain upland catchments in the U.K. have been increasing over the last decade. As part of a comprehensive characterisation of such waters their ability to complex Mn2+ has been studied using dialysis titration. Results indicate organic complexation is of minor importance for all stream‐waters tested at a typical pH of 5.5. However, for a peat moor source water sample, up to 60% of added Mn2+ proved non‐dialysable at pH 5.5 and 80% at pH 8.5.
