Abstract

Air pollution is the major problems faced by the Developing countries like India. They are facing a big problem due to pollution produced by vehicles due to partial or inappropriate combustion in a CI engine. These contaminants affects the atmosphere, human health, and air quality. In recent endeavour it has been found that ZSM5 doped with NiCl2, shows good results for the reduction of NOx in the (Common rail direct injection system) CRDI engine. The present work carried out with four samples as doping materials such as CuCl2, NiCl2, MgCl2 and FeCl2. The zeolite coated Nickel chloride ceramic monolith exhibits better reduction in the hydrocarbon (HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) emissions. The experiment was conducted using twin-cylinder diesel fuelled CRDI engine connected with an eddy current dynamometer and emission characteristics were analysed using AVL- DI gas analyser. From the results it is evident that NiCl2-ZSM5 is showing 53% of conversion efficiency NOx. CO. HC were observed when compared to other commercial catalyst. CuCl2, NiCl2, MgCl2 and FeCl2 coated ZSM5 coated catalytic converter was fabricated and it is fitted with the exhaust of the engine. The emission test were carried out with different speed with four coated zeolites. Compare to commercial catalytic converters the NiCl2- ZSM5 reduces the HC, NOx and CO emissions by 31.5%, 8.1% and 8%.
