Abstract
Objective To explore prevalence of depression, anxiety and suicide among ruralurban migrant workers and suicide risks in a Shenzhen corporation. Methods A total of 1845 questionnaires were collected in a cross-sectional survey filled by rural-urban migrant workers. The depression and anxiety parts of the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9,PHQ-GAD7) and the suicide questionnaire of the MINI-International Neuropsychiatric Interview were administered face-toface.Suicide risks were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results It was estimated 37.3% (n=689) of rural-urban migrant workers had depressive symptoms, among them 7.9% (n=146) had moderate or severer depression, while 21.2% (n=392) had anxiety symptoms, among them 3.6% (n=67) had moderate or severer anxiety. In PHQ-9,between males and females, there were no significant difference in age, education and marital status (all P>0.05),whereas in PHQ-GAD7 significant differences had been detected between males and females in unmarried and education higher than middle school subgroups.Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that moderate or severer depression (Wald test,P<0.01,OR=6.886) and moderate or severer anxiety (Wald test,P<0.05,OR=2.984) were two risk factors associated with suicide. Conclusion Among rural-urban migrant workers in a Shenzhen corporation, someone existed minor or severer depression as well as anxiety, moderate or severer depression and moderate or severer anxiety are two major risk factors associated with suicide.
