Abstract

Applying X-ray diffraction, differential thermal and microstructural analyses, phase interaction in the Tl 2Te-Bi 2Te 3 section was investigated and the phase diagram was derived. It was shown that the TlBiTe 2 compound is formed by peritectic reaction at 520°C and that it presents a variable composition phase having a temperature interval of crystallization of about 30°C. The given diagram explains the controversy existing in reference literature in relation to the melting temperature and some other properties of TlBiTe 2 and also the difficulty of obtaining crystals of this compound.
