Abstract

The optical, electrical and mechanical properties of the mixed composite V2O5-CeO2 are presented. It was found that the electrical conduction mechanism is governed by the small polaron hopping theory. It was observed that post-annealing enhanced the conductivity and this could be attributed to void removal and rearrangement of the atomic structure. The optical energy gap was estimated using the quadratic equation given for indirect transitions. The strain gauge thin films are of continuous type with a nominal gauge factor of IS. The effect of composition was shown to play an important role in the properties of this strain gauge.
