Abstract

The research-paper compares the acoustic properties of oil pan made of stainless steel, aluminium alloy and epoxy glass fiber to identify best material to reduce the radiated noise of oil pan. This paper contains pictorial representation of the acoustic pressure and sound pressure level in forms such as isosurface view SPL plots and polar SPL plots to get spatial response and radiation pattern. In entire study target frequency of 1500 Hz is used. Acoustic analysis is performed by plotting sound pressure level plots for all three materials to identify material having lowest sound pressure level using ANSYS software. Epoxy glass fiber oil pan had higher acoustic damping properties as observed by sound pressure level plots and polar SPL plots. While stainless steel oil pan had very high acoustic contribution towards sound pressure level of engine.
