Abstract

Objectives To identify the clinical nurses' recognition level and influence factors on basic life care, to provide evidence of taking effective methods to carry out basic life care. Methods A multistage sampling method was used to select 954 clinical nurses. A set of questionnaires was used to collect the data on recognition level and influence factors. Results The items of lowest score on clinical nurses' recognition were: basic life care can reflect the value of the nursing profession;the quality of basic life care can reflect the ethics of nurses;basic life care was one of the nurses' work duties;nurses need to use the knowledge and skills to complete basic life care. 89.9% nurses didn't completely understand their role in the basic life care. 54.2% nurses thought the executants of basic life care should be patients' family members, 14.7% nurses thought it should be health assistants and 14.1% nurses thought it should be family members and health assis-tanta. Nurse's age, professional degree, academic degree and work experience led to different recognition level. The influence factors of clinical nurses' recognition on basic life care were that whether or not willing to engage in clinical care, work experience and satisfaction degree with current work. Conclusions There is big mis-understanding of the recognition of basic life care for clinical nurses, factors affecting clinical nurses' recogni-tion on basic life care are multiple. The education and guidance program on clinical nurses' recognifion of basic life care should be carried out immediately. Key words: Clinical nurses; Basic life care; Recognition; Influence factor
