Abstract
AbstractWith the rapid development of internet and the emergence of new internet applications such as clouding computing, big data, and 5G, the network capacity of optical fiber communication system is increasing exponentially. It is necessary to study large optical transmission technology to satisfy the capacity requirements. In this paper, the key technologies of large-capacity optical fiber communication systems based on single-mode fiber (SMF) and few-mode fiber (FMF) are studied. First, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission technology based on the optical frequency comb in SMF is introduced, and four implementation schemes of the optical frequency comb are discussed. Next, mode division multiplexing (MDM) based on FMF is introduced to overcome the nonlinear Shannon limit of SMF. The key technologies to realize mode multiplexing and demultiplexing are introduced, including free-space optics scheme, the all-fiber mode multiplexing scheme and the silicon-based integrated mode multiplexing scheme.
