Abstract
Objective: The current study intended to investigate the effectiveness of mechanized agriculture in reducing waste. Although some studies investigated the effect mechanization in previous studies, it is not investigated fully in Iran. Methods: In this research study data were collected from annual statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food balance sheet of the Islamic republic of Iran and previously conducted studies. SPSS software, version 22 was used to investigate the effect of mechanization indexes on amount of waste to report the Correlation Coefficient. First all of the indices were defined then Correlation Coefficient was calculated. Results: The result showed negative significant correlation in some cases in machinery part (e.g. ratio of combine to operator and also tractor to driver and waste amount). Moreover some positive correlation was reported in energy part (e.g. net energy gain correlated positively with rice waste), further more significant correlation was reported in economic indices. Conclusions: This finding suggest a revise in agriculture policy of Iran is necessary to increase the effectiveness of mechanized agriculture to reduce the amount of waste and increase its role in providing food security
