Abstract

This study examines the anti-bacterial activity of tungsten oxide (WO3-x) nanoparticles prepared via nanosecond pulsed laser ablation using different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (0%, 1%, 3%, and 5%) as the medium. The as-prepared tungsten oxide without hydrogen peroxide showed oxygen vacancy (WO2.75). The addition of hydrogen peroxide removed the oxygen vacancies in the sample prepared with 1%, 3%, and 5% of hydrogen peroxide, thus, transforming the WO2.75 phase to WO3, and WO3.H2O. The synthesized tungsten oxide nanoparticles were evaluated for their anti-bacterial action against Staphylococcus aureus subsp. aureus ATCCBAA-977, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853. The obtained results revealed that tungsten oxides prepared at different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide significantly inhibit the activity of both Staphylococcus aureus ATCCBAA976, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853.
