Abstract

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is investigating mobile phones acceptance in academic library services among Iranian students based on UTAUT-2. Design/methodology/approachThe current study employed a quantitative and correlational approach to address the research hypotheses. The sample size included 438 university students of West of Iran. Measures of all the constructs in the UTAUT-2 model were adopted from previous studies. In addition, some revisions were made on the scales to reflect the focus on mobile phones. Data analysis was employed through descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient test, multiple regression, and structural equations using SPSS program 23 and Amos. FindingsThe findings showed that students' behavioral intention to use mobile phones at academic library services was significantly influenced by performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating condition, social influence, hedonic motivation, habit, self-efficacy, trust, and voluntarily of variance in behavioral intention. In this study, contrary to the expectation, price value did not have an influence on behavioral intention. Practical implicationsThe present study provides a deeper insight into to the current theoretical framework by presenting useful plans for designing and implementing the mobile library. Moreover, limitations and suggestions for future researchers are also discussed. Originality/valueThis is one of the first studies to apply the UTAUT-2 to the acceptance domain of mobile phones in the library services. Because the research was conducted in a non-English speaking society, it gives a broader perspective on the technology acceptance decision in Iran.
