Abstract

The increased flexibility due to the presence of an open crack in the multi-span beam is made bases for identification of crack location and size. The genetic algorithm is coupled with the inverse dynamics of the cracked beam to get effective solution. The modal parameters, obtained through non-destructive vibration testing, are the input to the code and the location and size of crack are the output. The crack is modeled as rotational spring, and support conditions are generalized in the formulation for cracked multi-span beam.
