Abstract

The classical Compton theorems for low-energy scattering of photons on pions or nucleons are proved and in addition certain recent results of Choudhury and Freedman derived. The only assumptions are Lorentz and gauge invariance, with of course the usual analyticity properties. Invariant amplitudes are used everywhere and crossing is never employed. Using the same methods, we have derived the Kroll-Ruderman theorem for photoproduction and certain superconvergence relations.
