Abstract

Gastrointestinal duplication cysts are uncommon congenital malformations that could present diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. They may be either cystic or tubular, and most of them are located in the mesentery of the intestine. Duplication cysts can be a diagnostic dilemma to the surgeon because of their varied presentations. A high index of suspicion is necessary to facilitate the diagnosis and prompt operative intervention after adequate resuscitation may be necessary in a setting where diagnostic tests are either not available or affordable. We report a case of a noncommunicating ileal duplication cyst in an infant presenting with intussusception, which was successfully managed by surgery.
