Abstract

Introduction issn 0362-4021 © 2014 Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society group, Vol. 38, No. 4, Winter 2014 283 This past year has been one of great losses to our organization, and to the world of group therapy. In this issue, we publish tributes to three prominent Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society (EGPS) members who died this year. First, we mourn Barbara Cohn, a leader in EGPS and the American Group Psychotherapy Association and, for many years, review editor of this journal. We include the eulogies given at her memorial service in November by Jon McCormick and Margaret Postlewaite as well as some written remembrances from Julian Horowitz, Barbara Feld, and Ronnie Levine. A former patient of Barbara’s, Jenny Klion, has waived anonymity and allowed us to publish her remarks from the memorial as well. Second, we honor Larry Epstein, another leader in the field of group therapy. Jacob Kirman and Wayne Ayers have written their tributes. Third, we honor Roberta Slavin, a longtime EGPS member, in a tribute from Neil Friedman. Our regular articles include an article by James R. Bleiberg on groups for young adults, and a survey of group use by occupational therapists by Susan M. Higgins, Sharan L. Schwartzberg, Gary Bedell, and Linda W. Duncombe. Judith Bates contributes a very personal recollection of her experience in group therapy. We continue our series of conversations, Thinking About Our Work, with some thoughts from Walter N. Stone about siblings in the group context, with commentaries and reactions from Claudia R. Arlo, Sherry D. Breslau, Bernard Frankel, Shelley J. Korshak, and Robert S. Pepper, with a response from Dr. Stone. Finally, we close with a review of my own recent book/DVD on couple therapy by Brunhild Kring and Susan Mahler. As always, we welcome your comments and feedback. —Lee Kassan, Editor ...
