Abstract

This book is about 12 young women and the woman who coaches them. They are true student-athletes, seeking full development of body and mind. Thirty years earlier the woman who coaches them was exactly as young as they are, playing the same game for the same university. The 30 years that separate her from her players encompass the history of Title IX basketball in the United States. Three of the young women are the senior cocaptains of Nancy Winstel's 2006–7 women's basketball team at Northern Kentucky University: Karmen Graham, Karyn Creager, and Brittany Winner. After winning the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, they advanced to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Great Lakes Regional and won their first game, losing in the second round to the eventual national champions.
